Your writings are always such a gift to me. Thank you for the work you do, for opening your heart, mind & life to us. And tell Tristan that there is cornbread & corncake...and both are fabulous!!! 😉
Hi Jeff, thanks so much for your invitation to see the desperation of "How long, O Lord?" as a potential moment of life-giving surrender. I've been thinking a lot about the things that have been wrenched out of our hands this year, and the grieving parts of us that continue to grasp for them. Empowerment feels helpful; that our calling could be ringing out from our lament and might just bring relief to ourselves and our world. I also find some kind of bittersweet witness in the fact that we still keep repeating this refrain after years of evidence of the suffering and mess that we humans make. It's amazing to me that our stubborn souls cannot help but want something different even though we have little reason to find a solution in ourselves. In a time when I feel so disjointed and disconnected, I'm trying to let the homesickness remind me of my belonging with Jesus. It doesn't calm the ache, but it helps me accept it a little easier.
I'm so please to hear that you travel write too. Your written words and spoken words (at several why christian gatherings) blown me away and reached into my soul. Are you still doing any church ministry? Isn't that what took you to whefe you are? Forgive me, please, if you've shared about that and I've missed it.
So I grew up on Jiffy and it still is my go to, but
I have done skillet cornbread for dressing. I want to try the course ground recipe, and now pick up Travel and Leisure also. Thank you for the song, so timely. Your words help me in how to consider all this horror the last week's. Take care.
Right there with you, Jeff...clearly, I did not try the good kind of cornbread growing up between Texas and the Deep South - I always found it too sweet and cakey as well.
Loved your exploration of ‘how long’ - too many times, I have shamefully looked for what Jesus can do for me instead what I can do for Him and His creations with other humans. Beautiful reminder from you, as always. Thank you.
Good Friday afternoon, Jeff. Thank you for your words of wisdom. I enjoying reading them. I am wondering if you received an email I sent to you last. Peace and all good, beloved one.
This was such a blessing to me on this day. I appreciate your wisdom and am thankful for your words
