Some fragmented thoughts on the life and work of the artist Lanecia Rouse Tinsley, grief and resilience, planting seeds, Michigan produce, and crispy waffles
Jeff, so many things I could say, but really they would all be summed up in the words “thank you”. Thank you for ministering to many souls through your letters. As one who just can’t do church right now, reading your letters give me a feeling of invite and belonging. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your recent art acquisition. Our dishwasher began to fail days after the warranty ran out, so I am here to tell you you made a wise and lasting right decision. In sharing your art, both you and Lanecia have ministered.
There’s such a kindness and gentleness to your words. You share your gifts and other’s creations in such a way that lights a spark of memory, creates interest, or sends me to dream of my own creations. I love my Prone to Wonder shirt and have held onto the readings of Marilyn McEntyre way passed their Lenten purpose. I feast on your meals without even preparing them. You may pray for me and my plain waffles as butter and crisp are my fav toppings. Fruit on the side, please. Thank you and blessings on your work and sweet family.
Thank you Jeff for this kindly and thoughtful post about the beauty and poignancy of Lanecia Tinsley's art, for pointing out that perhaps ministry doesn't have to depend on having a credential, that perhaps ministry doesn't have to look like how others do it, and how we respond to Spirit's guidance (or tugging) is a more wholistic way of living into our call to live as people of faith. I appreciate your writing so much, thank you!
So beautifully written, an authentic sharing with eloquence the depth of Lanecia and her art. She touches my life with warmth and beauty. How have I missed experiencing your expressive writing till now?
I so needed this as I tragically lost my son two weeks ago & am deeply grieving his passing. I’m going to look up some of her writings that were called out....and so appreciate the descriptions of soul crushing grief.
Tamee - knowing no other details other than you tragically lost your son so recently, my heart aches for you!! This stranger in Colorado is thinking about you. ♥️
Thank you for sharing this piece and the artist who created it. I missed especially the creatives in my life during quarantine. Your notes have filled that place....as you create not only with word but with your sharing of growing and cooking, family and Fozzie. Peace to you and Tristan.
Reminds me of John O’Donohue’s belief that each and every one of us is an artist as we encounter life. Her 90,000 photos suggests there is immense stillness in the transience of our rapid fire, 2 day shipping, high speed internet lives. Now if only I can get my iPhone to crash...

Thank you please pray I will be authentic with my church
Made me think of all the clothes I’m wearing that don’t fit so well, and why I continue to wear them. Thank you. xxx
