I'm so glad you are engaged in Debra's book! She came to see us at Plainsong last year and it was truly great to talk with her. I do have a question for you, and pardon me if you have answered it elsewhere and I haven't read it. I'm curious about your placemaking in west Michigan. This place has been my home for two decades. It hasn't always been the easiest place to live as a committed Christian who thinks beyond standard, current practices of faithfulness. How have you found it, what do you appreciate about it, what do you say no to, what do you rejoice in? Maybe too big a question! But I thought I'd try.
I'll definitely be ordering that book from my local library!
For AMA: How do you cope with the inherent... weirdness of attending church? I've grown up in the church all my life, but after returning after a while away, I keep getting struck by how strange it is, how oddly-organized, how it's not very conducive to real connection or deep conversation. Have you felt this as well? How do you push past it and find real community?
Question: Do you drive when you travel with Fozzie or do you fly and take him on the plane? And is he a good traveler dog? (From a dog lover about to take her dog on a plane to Texas)
Thank you for your beautiful words. I love reading your email when it comes.
Hi. Speaking of datelines, I am curious about your change from Michigan to the Cape. Will you be going back to Michigan at some point? I'm sorry if I missed this in one of your letters - and of course these decisions are personal so you may not want to share. I've loved the pictures of Fozzie on the beach. I don't know the Cape at all, but there's something magical about beach areas in "the off season".
this book sounds amazing. thank you for bringing it to my attention... I just finished listening to your Does Jesus Really Love Me? book yesterday and want to thank you for that as well. I for one loved your Texas and other accents. I also loved the depth, the humanity, the questions, the compassion in that book. How is Gideon?
